Veterinary nuclear medicine

Summary: Our aim is to provide students with basic knowledge on Veterinary Nuclear Medicine. Absolved specialty course on "Radiobiology for Vets" is recommended but not obligatory. Selected issues will be lectured on the history of veterinary nuclear medicine, most frequently applied state of art scintigraphical methods radiotherapeutical choices will be lectured from the clinicians point of view. Emphases will be on clinical interests e.g.: patient selection, indications of nuclear techniques, evaluation of clinical findings, and possible research applications.

Bone and bone marrow scintigraphy
Oncological scintigraphy
Inflammation scintigraphy
Functional organ examinations e.g.: kidney, hepatobiliar, heart scintigraphy
Radiation therapy (introduction, how it works, doses, veterinary specialties)
Teletherapy (60Cobalt source)
Radioiodine therapy of thyroid diseases
Systemic applications of radiopharmaceuticals (bone metastases palliation, receptor and antibody targeting therapy)
Local applications of radiopharmaceuticals (radiosynovectomy, local tumor handling), Brachytherapy
Practical course: Visiting a Veterinary Nuclear Medicine laboratory at the National Research Intitute for Radiobiology and Radiohygiene.
